Big Tuesday in Napier

Milo trying a Nick Thompson start!

Jo and Sarah at speed as the wind peaked at 20kts and a rough sea.

Hi all, it was day 2 here in Napier today, world class junior sailing with 48 countries battling it out on the waters of the Pacific.

The day started off with a cold southerly with a touch of west in it, and it was pretty light. Race 2a saw the fleet off upwind, in about 5kts, but then there was a large left shift and the course had to be relaid for flights 2b and 2c.

After the overnight rain the land started to heat up and the cloud started to burn off. Jamies race saw a massive left shift up the final windward leg which left him out to dry along with the Kiwis who had been leading- that was tough.

Then the wind and sea state built from the the southish and we were treated to a big day of sailing, with roughish seas and upto 20kts of breeze. The current and race track favoured the right, but just like Garda, its hard to get a good start and get to the right.

Matt had a great day, one of his best, scoring 17,7,23,4 to be 23rd after 5 races, with a display of racing similar to James Grant a few years ago in Sardinia.

Jamie not to be outdone scored a 60 [which was a teen until the wind freaked out], a 10th, a 12th [ but ocs that was really tough ], and a great 4 in the last race. Jamie is 92 but will drop the OCS soon.

Milo had a challenging day which got better, scoring 60, after a shocker of a boat end start which incliuded a 720, a 55, and then after leading from the pin and leading on the tracking a 21,and finally in the last race a 34.

Jo and Sarah had middling days with Jo having a better last race, Jo is 109 and Sarah 130. Both know what to do they just have to do it.

Just finished a tracking debrief, its still all to play for here, and there's a lot to learn, being tough on the line, and getting the first shift makes all the difference.

More news tommorrow.
